Trump’s Trial Strategy in Focus

Appearing on MSNBC on Saturday, a former prosecutor elucidated that Donald Trump’s most recent tactic to postpone his Washington D.C. trial until 2026 will likely face dismissal by District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan. Furthermore, it is anticipated that Judge Chutkan will direct Trump to augment his legal team in order to align with her timeline.

During a conversation with host Alex Witt, Kristen Gibbons Feden was prompted to discuss the extensive volume of documents, amounting to millions of pages, which Trump’s legal representatives need to review in preparation for his defense against allegations of conspiring to manipulate the 2020 presidential election, aiming to prolong his presidency.

According to Feden, the motion to defer the trial until 2026 is improbable to secure approval from Judge Chutkan, who has already expressed her anticipation of a swift trial proceeding.

When questioned by host Witt about whether this constitutes another instance of Trump’s “Delay, delay, delay tactics,” the former prosecutor affirmed, “It could indeed be promptly resolved.”

Nevertheless, Feden acknowledged the validity of the argument presented by Trump’s legal team. She conceded, “The Trump legal team does present a compelling argument. Considering the initial document production comprises a staggering 11 million pages, a trial extension of a year and a half does seem reasonable. However, it is important to note that the court is not inclined to grant such an extension.”

“In my assessment, Judge Chutkan is likely to convey to Mr. Trump that he should retain additional legal counsel if he finds it challenging to manage the document production. Furthermore, she may emphasize that failing to address this aspect adequately could have implications for his defense strategy. Therefore, it is highly probable that she will exert pressure to conclude these proceedings before the conclusion of the upcoming summer. This is an unequivocal expectation,” Feden concluded.
